Since 2016 DJ Haram has been building a world of dark and noisy club sonics informed by the Middle Eastern music she was raised on. Almost a decade later, she distills all her experiences into an intense debut album with Beside Myself, and all lessons learned in the industry haven’t always been pretty: this is as much a celebratory collaborative club record as it is one of irreverent protest music, where the bass is heavy and boils with distortion while global sounds are industrialised from Latin rhythms to Arabic strings and rattling tablas.
